How to measure your dog for a collar

Our dog collars are measured by neck size, not by overall collar length, so please measure your dogs neck, ideally with a fabric tape measure, as you would like the collar to fit.

Or measure your dogs old collar (if you were happy with its fit) from the buckle to the hole that your dog wears their collar on. Please also remember that you should be able to comfortably fit two fingers inside the collar when it is on.

Leather collar care

If you treat your leather collars well, they will thank you by growing more beautiful with age. To clean, brush off any dirt, then treat with Neats Foot Oil or Saddle Soap. This will keep the leather moist and supple.

Different leathers are best for different purposes: black, tan and chocolate are great for rugged use and grow more beautiful with age, holding the stories of their owner’s activities. The red leather can darken with swimming and wear – and may turn a deeper shade of red by absorbing the oils from your dog’s coat and the environment.

It is best to remove the collar when applying flea or tic treatments and wait until the area is dry before re-dressing your dog.

We also make collar care kits with everything you need to look after your leather collar.

Fabric Collar Care

Our fabric collars and leads all have a webbing core for added strength. They can be machine washed in a regular washing machine, but we recommend covering the buckle with a sock secured with an elastic band to protect the machine. You can also give them a pre wash treatment with the Spot Gone Stick that we sell on our site - it is a miracle stain remover that we swear by for both collars and beds. And our clothes too! Our wool collars & leads can be machine washed on a cold wool cycle.

Collar Care Kits & Service

You can care brilliantly for your dog's collar at home to prolong it's functional life. To help you do this we make a Collar Care Kit.

However should you loose a stud (very occassionally this can happen, despite the studs being hand made for us by Menorcan artisans who individually weld each rivet back on to each star, heart or bone), or if you live by the sea and your rivets have taken a hit from the sea salt in the air, or perhaps your pup has just really given their collar a run for it's money... book in with us for a Collar Repair Service.

We will replace any missing studs, replace all of the rivets and give the collar a really great clean up. It won't look like new, but it will look majestically refreshed and full of cleaner character.
